To Penny's surprise the maid waited up until Penny had finished the ironing. And the maid accompanied Penny when she went up to her room to go to bed. But as soon as they both entered the room the maid explained:
"Mistress was so pleased with my idea of humiliating you by making you eat topless in bondage, that she said I could have a reward. I wanted to beat you hard for my reward, but Mistress said that my idea was not good enough an idea for that big a reward, the best reward I could get was to be allowed to tie you to the bed and leave you in bondage all night. So lie down, I've got the rope."
Penny did not want to be tied up, she was getting very fed up of finding herself in bondage. But she had no choice, she was a slave. So reluctantly she laid down on the bed.
Although the mistress of the house had told the maid that she could not beat Penny, she had said that she could tie Penny up in any way she liked, even making her very uncomfortable all night. So it was no surprise when she made the bondage as uncomfortable as possible. She tied Penny up with her back over the foot-board of the bed. Not only was this an uncomfortable position that would leave her stiff in the morning, it also meant that the top edge of the foot-board was digging into Penny's back, and this would begin hurting her before long. And she tied one of Penny's feet to the top of the wardrobe, suspending her leg in the air. Not only was this uncomfortable in itself, it forced more of Penny's weight on her back, and forced her shoulders into the top of the foot-board, making it hurt more.
As one final cruelty, the maid opened the window, so that there would be a cold draught blowing on Penny's naked flesh all night.
