Arrival

8:57 AM
At first Penny was not worried. She could not even begin to guess how she had ended up in the back of the van, but she assumed there was some logical explanation. But as the van drove on she began to worry a bit. Over half an hour had passed since she awoke, and still the van was moving. And she had no idea how long she had been in the van before waking up, it could be hours. She had gone to bed before midnight and fallen asleep immediately she had finished her milk, so it be over nine hours since she ended up in the van. Assuming an average speed of about 50 miles an hour (it felt as though the van was travelling faster than this, but she could not be sure), she could have travelled hundreds of miles.

Finally the van slowed and stopped. Then it reversed slowly and turned. Obviously it was backing into a driveway. The van stopped, and the engine was switched off. A minute later Penny heard the sound of a garage door being closed, the van had been backing into a garage.

Penny expected the driver to come round and open the van door, but he did not do so. Instead she heard a small door open and close. He had gone away and left her locked in the van.

When he did not return Penny began to worry that he may not even know that she is locked away in the back of his van! She tried the door, tried to get out, but it was useless. The door only opened from the outside, and the rest of the van was sealed. Penny could not escape. She was trapped in the van!
