A Puzzling Awakening

8-23 AM
Penny woke up in the back of a van. It took her a moment to realise where she was. When Penny had fallen asleep she had been in her own bed at home. She had been happy, three days ago had been her eighteenth birthday, and her parents had made it the best birthday ever. Although they had little money, it was obvious that they were determined to make it a birthday party to remember.

And for the next few days her parents had been extra kind to her, they gave her everything she asked for, and made it clear that they loved her. If she had not known better she would have assumed that one, or both, of her parents had been told that they were dieing and wanted to make sure that Penny knew they loved her, because very soon she would never see them again.

Then the previous night they had thrown another party for her, all her favourite food, all her friends invited, it had been wonderful. Afterwards she had been so excited she did not think she would be able to sleep. But before bed her parents gave her a drink of warm milk, and that calmed her down, she quickly fell asleep, almost as though the milk had been drugged.

Then this morning she woke in the back of a van, and the van was moving. It took her a moment to realise where she was. She had fallen asleep in her own bed, in her own bedroom, and she awoke alone in the back of a moving van.

What the hell had happened ?????
